The lord of Kyoto controlled this bridge as it was the entrance gate of Mukomachi in the same way as Sanjo Ohashi was the entrance to Kyoto. In 1697 'Karahashi' which was built by the lord of Kyoto it was very big and in ancient Japanese measurements '5 ken' long and '1 ken 6 shaku' wide.
