1200 years ago Muko City was the center of the Japanese capital.
In 784 Emperor Kanmu relocated the capital from Heijo kyo (Nara) to Otokuni gun (present Muko City, Nagaokakyo City, Ooyamazaki cho, a part of Kyoto City) .
The new capital was called Nagaoka kyo and was located at grid lines 'east-west 4.3km' and 'south-north 5.3km'.
Nagaoka kyo was much bigger than Heijo-kyo and almost the same size as Heian-kyo.
